Invited by Dr. Richard Phillips (University of Sheffield), Dr. Nafhesa Ali (University of Sheffield), and Dr. Claire Chambers (University of York), I lead a series of 5 animation workshops in July and August of 2017 as part of the Storying Relationships Project.
This Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) – funded project is about how young men and women in British Pakistani Muslim communities understand and explore relationships in terms of both attitudes and practices, through the stories they consume and produce.
The workshop series lead the participants through the creation of their own narrative animation from concept to completion – with notably minimal intervention! They chose the topic, recorded their own thoughts, and then drew associated images (learning two software packages in the process!) to complete a 3 minute animation on the topic of Halal Dating.
The animation is not yet available online. It will premiere Saturday 16th September, 2017 at the Cellar Theatre, Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield, from 2-4pm.
